War Is A Racket, by Major General Smedley Butler, 1935

I wish this book was required reading in high school…. We would have to have a draft….. Only psycopaths and sociopaths would enlist… Which, to be fair… wouldnt be such a bad thing…… at least they would be on a leash, and doing what they love..

But seriously, this man, at his death, was the most decorated Marine in U.S. History. He had been intimately involved in our Colonial Wars, and WWI…… and he was against our getting involved in another European war….. Think about that. Better yet, read the book….. it’s only 5 or 6 chapters, you could knock it out at lunch….

More importantly, give this book to your high schoolers… Really care about our kids? Want to do more? sneak it into their high school library….. Pay to print excerpts in the school paper….. the college paper, the local paper……

Imagine if 16 year olds read this book? Imagine, if there were no 18 year olds willing to join the military?

What if the 18 year olds decided they weren’t interested in dying so older people can get richer? Imagine, if the middle aged, the old and the rich, had to go fight these battles? Can you imagine the impact that would have?
